Steely Dan, The Royal Scam


An expanded version of Roy Walton’s classic “Cascade”—on steroids.

A number of identical blue-backed Aces of Spades are shown. Some of the Aces are turned face-down, others are left face-up. Nevertheless, the packet of the Aces undetectably turns all face-up and, then, all face-down—almost like magic. All of the faces and all of the backs are shown repeatedly.

During the process, two piles of Aces are created, one face-up; the other face down. Unexpectedly, each of the Aces in the face-up pile are turned face-down and are seen to now have four different-colored backs.

As a complete surprise, the remaining face-down “Aces” are turned face up and have now become a Royal Straight Flush in Spades.

You end clean and everything may be examined. No palming or difficult sleight-of-hand. Nothing added or taken away.
